And so it Begins........
The Colts' 2026 campaign is officially underway, with encouraging numbers of more than 60 players attending the first two sessions.
This early training block leading into the Christmas break is important. It’s not about being pushed hard in fitness or gym work, and it’s not about long hours on the field. It’s about blowing out the cobwebs, getting the body moving, meeting the coaches, S&C staff, and everyone involved in the Colts.
Most importantly, it’s about meeting your new rugby mates and building the bonds that will carry you through a tough season ahead.
The hard yakka begins in the new year.
Modern rugby demands power, pace, and a strong fitness base, and we’re very fortunate this season to have Brian Nguyen leading our S&C program, assisted by intern Andy Nguyen. Over the past 10 years, our Colts have benefited from outstanding S&C coaches supported by up-to-date sports science from University of Wollongong students. 2026 will be a continuation of the clubs focus on S&C and the crucial part it plays in a seasons rugby.
This year, the club has taken another great step with Nutritionist Paul Frean running a seminar at the clubhouse on 27 November (time to be announced) for our players, who are strongly encouraged to attend. Nutrition is a crucial part of weekly training and gameday preparation. For context, Bob Dwyer was the first international coach to include a nutritionist on a Wallabies touring squad at the 1991 Rugby World Cup, and we all know how successful that campaign was.
Well done to all who attended this week’s sessions.
Make sure you back it up over the next few weeks leading into the break. Consistency now sets the foundation for the season ahead. We’re also planning a beach session at Wanda, followed by a swim after training, which is always a great way to finish off and enjoy some time with the squad.
Anyone keen to attend a training session is more than welcome, and parents are also encouraged to come down and have a look at what is happening at Colts.
6pm on Monday and Wednesday at Forshaw Rugby Park.
